How to Make a Bicycle
Whether you're playing on Navezgane or a randomly created map, the world of 7 Days to Die is too large to travel without a vehicle like a bicycle. Thankfully, you can get a bicycle as a reward or by creating one yourself – here's everything you need to know to do so.
How to Get a Bicycle
The fastest way to get a bicycle is by getting one as a reward from a Trader. After clearing a Trader quest tier, you can likely choose the bicycle as your reward – among other goodies. Typically, the first Trader you meet should offer you a bicycle after clearing all Quests in Tier 1.
It's highly recommended that you pick the bicycle. The world map is massive, and hoofing across it is tedious. 7 Days to Die really starts to expand once you get your hands on a vehicle. The bicycle allows you to move faster across the game world and includes extra storage for looting.
As Winston Zeddemore from an alternate dimension would say: "If a Trader in 7 Days to Die asks if you want a bicycle, you say yes!"
How to Make a Bicycle
Let's say you decided against taking the bicycle from the Trader and now you're feeling buyer's remorse. Never fear: You can craft a bicycle in 7 Days to Die.
To craft a bicycle, you'll need to reach Tier 1 in the Vehicles section of the Crafting Skills menu. Completing the Tier requires skill points awarded by reading Vehicle Adventures Skill Magazines. You only need to read four Vehicle Adventures magazines, since you begin the game with one skill point in Vehicles already unlocked.
Next, you need to unlock Workstations Tier 2, giving you access to the Workbench. This requires you to read nine Forge Ahead Skill Magazines. Once these two steps are complete, you're able to craft your very first bicycle.
A Bicycle is made of three parts:
- Bicycle Chassis
- Bicycle Handlebars
- Wheel (2)
All three parts must be crafted and combined at a Workbench to make a finished bicycle. Once you have a Workbench created and placed in your base, open up its menu and use the search function to find the parts you need to make.
To make a Bicycle Chassis, open the Workbench menu and create one using:
- 7 Forged Iron
- 3 Mechanical Parts
- 3 Duct Tape
- 3 Leather
- 3 Spring
The Bicycle Handlebars are crafted by combining:
- 3 Duct Tape
- 3 Leather
- 1 Mechanical Parts
- 9 Short Iron Pipe
- 3 Spring
To complete the Bicycle, you need two Wheels. To make one Wheel, open the Workbench and combine:
- 3 Forged Iron
- 24 Scrap Polymers
- 2 Oil
- 15 Coal
- 1 Bottle of Acid
Most of the aforementioned materials can be looted randomly from containers in the game world. To increase the odds of finding vehicle loot, check places that service them such as garages and gas stations. You should also find more of the respective Skill Magazines in such locations.
Forged Iron can be made by smelting Iron in the Forge. Mechanical Parts can be rarer than other materials in the list but are quickly found by dismantling vehicles with a Wrench.
While rare, you may also find Wheels and bicycle parts while looting. Some traders can sell these parts as well.
When you have all the parts complete and in your inventory, open the Workbench menu, choose the "Bicycle" option, and select "Craft."
How to Use the Bicycle
To use the bicycle in 7 Days to Die, add it to your hotbar and place it using the right-click button on your mouse (default on PC) while looking at the ground. Tap the activation button (default "E" on your PC keyboard) to climb onto your bike. Holding forward lets you move forward, and holding the shift key allows you to speed up, but this does drain your Stamina meter.
You have other options while riding the bike. Holding the spacebar ("X" button on a controller) activates the emergency brake, and tapping the "X" key jingles the bell. Clicking the left-mouse button (or the Right Thumbstick) changes the steering mode.
The bicycle is a basic vehicle in the game but has several useful functions. With the bicycle on the ground, place your cursor over it and hold the "E" key (or the "Y" button on an Xbox pad) to activate an options wheel. Here, you can open the bike's menu, lock it with a password (for multiplayer), repair it, honk its horn, or open its storage menu.
The bicycle has nine storage slots. Moving materials to the bike allows you to continue looting while exploring the game. Choosing the "Take" option in the menu places the bike in your inventory.
How to Customize and Repair the Bicycle
Opening the bicycle menu from the options wheel, or selecting it in your menu, lets you enter its customization menu. The bicycle includes two vehicle modification slots and one cosmetics slot for colored dye – the default color is white.
The Bicycle can become damaged when crashing into things. To repair the bicycle, you need to use a Repair Kit. With the bike on the ground, pick the "Repair" option in the options wheel when you have a Repair Kit in your inventory. If you have the bicycle in your inventory, select it and choose "Repair."
