How to Get Water
Water is a precious resource in 7 Days to Die, but thankfully you can find it in many places - including toilets! But it's not healthy nor recommended to drink filthy water from toilets, so you'll want to purify it first. Here's where you can find water and how to purify it in 7 Days to Die.
How to Use Water
Water is used to manage thirst in 7 Days to Die. The blue bar underneath your hotbar is your Water meter. At 50%, you start to become thirsty. When thirsty, your health and stamina recovery are slowed and your maximum stamina is reduced. By drinking fresh water, you can recover these debuffs.
When you begin the game, you're provided with two jars of fresh water (stylized as Water in the game). But once that water is gone, you'll need to track down more.
Drinking water from lakes and ponds is the quickest way to recover thirst. To drink standing water, hold the action key (E key by default) while hovering over the water with open hands. Be warned that drinking standing water may alleviate thirst, but it puts you at risk of contracting Dysentery. Instead, you'll want to search for Murky Water.
How to Find Murky Water
Murky Water is your primary source of water in 7 Days to Die. Drinking Murky Water recovers 10 points of water and increases stamina recovery by 15%. But drinking it can inflict you with Dysentery, a Status Effect that periodically reduces your Water and Food bars in a way that's best left to the imagination.
Places to find Murky Water include:
- Coffee Pots
- Toilets
- Food Piles
- Coolers
You can cure Dysentery by drinking Goldenrod Tea. Taking Vitamins can prevent Dysentery, but it will not cure it.
Other Sources of Water
There are other ways to get water in 7 Days to Die that don't require you to cook Murky Water gathered from toilets. Food items such as soup and cans of vegetables can give you small amounts of water and food. For example, drinking a Can of Chicken Soup replenishes 10 points of water.
Creating a Dew Collector will allow you to gather water over time. To unlock it, you must get your Workstation skill level to 2 by reading at least one Forged Ahead Skill Magazine. Crafting a Dew Collector requires 100 Scrap Polymers, 4 Short Iron Pipe, and 4 Duct Tape. Once you finished making it, place it anywhere on your property.
The Dew Collector can be upgraded. Traders sell Tools that can increase the rate of water collection, as well as purify the water before gathering. You can purchase these tools at many Traders by exchanging Dukes, the in-game currency. They may also be awarded for completed Quests.
The three tools are:
- Gatherer
- Increases the rate of dew collection.
- Tarp
- Increases the amount of water collected each day.
- Water Filter
- Filters Murky Water to create clean Water.
To install the tools, open up the Dew Collector and place a Tool where it fits in the Tools menu
