Challenge System
The Challenge System in 7 Days to Die gives players a chance to be rewarded for completing certain milestones. If you felt like forging 10 pieces of Forged Steel should come with a bonus, you're in luck.
Challenge System Explained
At the start of 7 Days to Die, you're tasked with completing a set of nine Basic Quests as a way of learning the game. In other words, it's the game's version of a tutorial. When the quests are finished, you unlock the Challenge System, which awards you with chunks of experience points and more for in-game achievements.
The Challenge System is split into 11 categories, each tailored to specific gameplay features of the game:
- Homesteading
- Establish and protect your home base.
- Advanced Survival
- Find food and water, create a Campfire, and learn to hunt.
- Crafting
- Creating items
- Traders / Quests
- Discover the Traders in the game and use their services.
- Harvesting
- Collect materials such as Short Iron Pipes, Leather, Car Parts, and more.
- Gathering
- Gather resources such as Lead, Clay Soil, and Wood.
- Farmer
- Till the land and learn to grow flowers and crops.
- Healer
- Heal yourself and craft medical supplies.
- Survivor
- Explore all the biomes and survive during Blood Moon Hordes.
- Hunter
- Hunt animals for their resources.
- Zombie Slayer
- Kill zombies and their variants.
There are 10 challenges to complete per category. Finishing a challenge will cause a notification to appear on your screen.
What You Earn for Completing Challenges
Completing challenges primarily rewards you in experience points (XP). The greater the challenge, the higher the XP reward. Discovering your first Trader, for example, will net you 500 XP. But killing 500 zombies awards you with 10,000 experience points and some ammunition. Other challenges offer special rewards, so it's important to check every so often.
You can view your Challenge System progress by opening up the menu and navigating to the Challenges tab indicated by a Trophy icon or by hitting the "Y" key on your keyboard.
But how do you keep a handle on what challenges you complete? That's the neat part, every challenge is paired with a progress bar beneath its icon, and clicking on it shows you how much further you need to go for the reward. When you've completed the challenge, select "Redeem."
