Here’s one for fans of classic ‘90s sitcoms who also enjoy owning their media in physical form: The whole run of Seinfeld is coming to 4K UHD and Blu-ray. You can preorder it now at Amazon. The 4K box set is priced at $249.99, while the Blu-ray set is $149.99. The release date for both is December 17, just in time for Christmas.
Preorder Seinfeld: The Complete Series
Seinfeld is widely acknowledged to be one of the best sitcoms ever made, and if you lived through the ‘90s, you probably remember its massive cultural impact. It was a major sensation pretty much throughout the entire decade, spawning catch phrases like “Yadda, yadda, yadda” and “No soup for you,” popularizing complaints about concepts like “close talking” and “double-dipping,” and much more. It debuted in 1989 and ran for nine seasons for a total of 180 episodes.
It’s a show about a fictionalized version of comedian Jerry Seinfeld, who lives in a New York City apartment, and this three friends: George Costanza, Elaine Benes, and (spoilers for one episode) Cosmo Kramer. None of them are particularly nice people, casting judgements on everyone they date, work with, and otherwise encounter. It has a whole lot of complaining and misunderstandings, and is generally a total delight to watch.
Larry David, Jerry Seinfeld, and the other creative leads had a mantra for how the story lines would play out: no hugging and no learning. They remained true to that touchstone from start to finish. It really is one of the best TV shows of all time.
And while $250 is certainly not chump change, it’s worth noting that preorder prices often come down at Amazon before launch. If you preorder, you’ll be charged the lowest price it reaches prior to release.
If you don’t mind not owning your shows, you can stream all nine seasons of Seinfeld now on Netflix – though it could vanish from the service at any time. If you prefer to stick to physical media, you can check out our guide to upcoming Blu-rays for more updates on releases.
