This "Best of" set was released this week, and is a little more difficult than most to categorize. It's not full of episodes - and it's not full of extras. It's material from the episodes, rearranged in an extra-style format. And? It's not even a set - it's all on one disc. Some of the features include "Better Know a District," Colbert's 434-part series where he interviews a member of Congress, coverage of Colbert's interview with "Papa Bear" Bill O'Reilly, the Green Screen challenge (which George Lucas almost won), and a piece on Stephen Jr., the eagle named in honor of Colbert.
This DVD would be a great gift for any fan of the show, it's cheap, it's a short sampler, and it's entertaining. Plus - it's informative for anyone who doesn't yet know the word "Truthiness." If you're a fan and have a friend who hasn't seen the show? This would be a great introduction to the Colbert Nation.
We watch this show nightly at our house, and it's never looked better than on this DVD. The video is outstanding - the graphics are sharp, the colors are vivid. It really puts the cable broadcast to shame (I'm looking at you, Time Warner). The sound is pitch perfect, too.
Pick this up as a stocking stuffer - and don't forget to get one for yourself, too.
