Blizzard has unveiled Diablo 4 Season 2, dubbed Season of Blood. It launches October 17.
Season 2 adds a Vampire Hunter companion called Erys, who is teased in a cinematic shown at gamescom 2023. Erys is voiced by actress and producer Gemma Chan.
Diablo boss Rod Fergusson took to the stage at gamescom 2023 Opening Night Live to say players get vampire powers as they track down and face off against a vampire lord as part of a new questline.
Season 2 also adds five new and returning endgame bosses with the ability to target specific Unique and Uber Unique items as a drop, updates to renown rewards, updates to gem and stash storage (gems no longer take up inventory space), and updates to resistance and status effects. Paragon Points, Skill Points, Potion Charges, and Obol capacity upgrades will now carry over into a new Season once achieved with an Eternal or previous Seasonal Realm character. Fergusson added Diablo 4 has an impressive 12 million players. Season 1 is ongoing.
Blizzard released patch 1.1.1 on August 8 and it appears to have gone down well after the disastrous prior update caused a backlash. Blizzard has already released a lengthy roadmap and promised to continue addressing community feedback through Season 3 and beyond.
Diablo 4 was the best-selling game in June, and has maintained momentum despite its various controversies. For more info, check out our in-depth Diablo 4 Season 1 guide as well as our interactive map.
