There’s been plenty of rumors on the kind of celebrity cameos we’ll see in Deadpool 3, none of which director Shawn Levy has specifically confirmed or denied – but he is pretty surprised about how easy it was to get some of them.
Levy gave a long interview on the Happy Sad Confused podcast that was published on Thursday, with host Josh Horowitz asking if there was any particular cameo that Levy shocked to get.
"Yeah, and what blew my mind also is how easy some of those cameos have been,” he said. “People love Deadpool. People love Ryan. Thankfully, people also seem to like my work. They know that Ryan and I are in a groove of creative brotherhood that is unique and seems to be working.”
He added that he loves “the proliferation of casting rumors around my movie because there's so many that it's impossible to know what's real and what's made up." Those mirror comments he’s previously made about the casting rumors, which he’s vaguely addressed by saying some are true and some are false.
About those Taylor Swift/Dazzler rumors…
Horowitz also asked about the rumors that superstar Taylor Swift will appear as Dazzler in Deadpool 3. While this speculation isn’t necessarily new, it blew up online after Swift attended an NFL game with Levy and stars Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman. It should be noted that Swift has long been friends with Reynolds and his wife Blake Lively, who was also at the game, but the internet being the internet, rumors caught fire nonetheless.
When asked if the word Dazzler has “escaped anyone’s lips when you’ve been in a room with Taylor,” Levy brushed it off by saying "it sure escapes the lips of social media everyday and that's all I'm gonna say." Levy added that it “sounds like a great idea” when Horowitz pressed him further, but was otherwise tight-lipped.
"Literally, I feel like, oh wow, I went to a football game a couple weeks ago and I had a really good time with friends and I am thrilled to be talking about other things,” he concluded.
Well, there you have it: that’s probably the most we’re gonna get on the Swift/Deadpool 3 front for the time being.
Otherwise, Levy reiterated his previous sentiments that Deadpool 3 will be “audacious, gritty, hilarious, and gnarly,” saying that he’s gotten “nothing but support” from making it that way as the Deadpool series officially becomes part of the MCU.
Deadpool 3 is currently paused amid the ongoing SAG-AFTRA strike, with Levy previously saying that its previously announced May 3, 2024, release date is in “true risk” despite the fact that half of the movie has already been shot and edited. The actors guild returned to the negotiating table with Hollywood’s studios this week after their previous attempts broke down earlier this month.
