Apple has unveiled the latest refreshes for its MacBook Pro laptops, and they include new 14- and 16-inch models with the brand-new M3, M3 Pro, and M3 Max chips. Oh, and they are also available in a new Space Black finish.
The new MacBook Pro line are available for pre-order today, and all but the M3 Max models will be released on November 7. The M3 Max models, which are the most powerful, will arrive, as of this writing, between November 9-13.
The 14-inch MacBook Pro with M3 starts at $1,599 and $1,499 for education; the 14-inch MacBook Pro with M3 Pro starts at $1,999 and $1,849 for education; and the 16-inch MacBook Pro starts at $2,499 and $2,299 for education. All of the new MacBook Pro models can be purchased in either Silver or the new Space Black finish and can be built with up to 128GB of unified memory and up to 8TB SSD storage.
All models also feature the Liquid Retina XDR display with 20% brighter SDR content, a 1080p front camera, a six-speaker sound system, up to 22 hours of battery life, and much more.
As for the new M3 family of chips, these are the first chips built for personal computers that utilize 3-nanometer technology. They also use a new tech called Dynamic Caching that will only use the amount of local memory needed to complete each task so all the rest can be used for other things. It also brings hardware-accelerated ray tracing to Macs for the first time.
Apple promises the M3 Max model of the new MacBook Pro is up to 11x faster than the fastest Intel-based MacBook Pro and up to 2.5x faster than the M1 Max model of the 16-inch MacBook Pro. The MacBook Pro with M3 Pro is 40% faster than the 16-inch model with M1 Pro, and the 14-inch MacBook Pro with M3 is 60% faster than the 13-inch MacBook Pro with M1.
Lastly, the new MacBook Pro line's enclosures are made of 100% recycled aluminum and are "incredibly durable," according to Apple. It also uses "100 percent recycled rare earth elements in all magnets, and 100 percent recycled tin soldering and gold plating in multiple printed circuit boards."
This is the latest update to the MacBook Pro line as the most recent updates came earlier this year to the 14 and 16-inch models got updated with the M2, M2 Pro, and M2 Max chips. While the 13-inch MacBook Pro was last updated in 2022 featuring Apple M2 and is the only MacBook to still include the Touch Bar.
