UPDATE: "BioShock 2 has been temporarily removed from the Steam, Xbox Live, and PlayStation Network marketplaces and will return to these digital stores soon," a 2K representative said in a statement issued to IGN. "We'll let you know when that happens. In the meantime, this in no way affects the single-player or multiplayer experience for those who currently own BioShock 2."
BioShock 2 and its downloadable content packs are not currently available for purchase from digital distribution platforms, such as Steam, PlayStation Network Store, Xbox Games Store, Green Man Gaming, Apple Store and Amazon.
First pointed out on the PC Gaming subreddit, it is suspected that the five-year-old game was pulled for sale from digital retailers due to the expiration of music license agreements.
This follows the removal of BioShock 2, along with Far Cry 2, BioShock 2: Minerva's Den DLC, Crysis 2, and The Darkness, for sale from the Xbox 360 games store last month.
2K Marin-developed first-person shooter launched worldwide on February 2010 for Windows PC, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. A Mac version of the game was released by Feral Interactive in early 2012. 2K re-released BioShock 2 and the previously Games for Windows Marketplace exclusive, Minerva's Den DLC on Steam in 2013 when Games for Windows Live was spun down.
We have reached out to 2K Games for additional information and will update this article accordingly.
