The December 18th Nintendo Direct was mostly 3DS-focussed, showing plenty of footage of early 2014's games. Here's what went down.Things kicked off with a surprising announcement: Hyrule Warriors, or Zelda Musou in Japan, a crossover game between Dynasty Warriors and Zelda. It's a cool-looking Wii U action spin-off that will be out in 2014.There were some new modes announced for the recently-announced Kirby: Triple Deluxe, including four-player Kirby Fighters and a rhythm-based platforming mode starring King Dedede. Kirby also has a super-powered inhale ability called Hypernova.Yoshi's New Island is definitely coming in 2014, still looks amazing, and features giant eggs - we got a lovely new trailer. It was followed by a lovely surprise: the return of Chibi Robo to the West, in the form of Chibi Robo Photo Finder. You can read all about it here. It'll be on eShop from January 9th.Iwata briefly ran through some details on Pokemon Bank, including a refresh on the recently announced pricing, and revealed that anyone who uses the service will get a free ultra-rare Celebi.Americans got some new details on Bravely Default, which is already out in Europe and Japan. We then got another look at Donkey Kong Tropical Freeze, including footage of Cranky Kong in-game. Sonic Lost World is getting some cute Yoshi's Island-themed DLC, alongside a hint that the next DLC will be Zelda-themed. Golf is coming to Wii Sports Club on Wii U.Nintendo announced NES Remix, which looks really cool, kind of like a NES Wario Ware. It's a new Wii U eShop title that puts twists on levels from 16 classic titles. It's available right now, and costs $14.99 in the US and ?8.99 in Europe. It features “quick levels” from the classic games, and while some iconic moments will be mostly unchanged from the originals, others will feature new gameplay mechanics. In what will likely prove to be the last Year of Luigi promotion, Nintendo announced Dr Luigi - a remix of Dr Mario starring the little brother. It's out December in the US and January in Europe. There's also a bunch of Luigi swag available as Club Nintendo rewards in all territories. The last announcement in the English-language Nintendo direct was Rosalina as a playable character in Smash Bros - the best thing about that was the announcement video, which briefly teased Kirby in Mario Kart before revealing the real news. Things closed out with a new trailer for Mario Kart 8.Meanwhile, in Japan, Iwata showed off the recently-released Daigassou! Band Brothers P - a game that is probably exciting only to me, the sequel to the mad co-op rhythm-action game I bought a DS for in 2005. There were also in-depth looks at a baffling 3DS train simulator and the new 3DS Harvest Moon (Connect to the New Land) with elephants and bears, as well as Mario and Luigi reward costumes for Felynes in Monster Hunter 4. Puyo Puyo Tetris was also shown, a mash-up of the two classic platformers out on 6th Feb in Japan. There it is: everything that happened in today's Nintendo Direct. Be sure to come back next time.
