Media Create's sales figures for December 1 through December 7 have Professor Layton and the Final Time Journey in first place with 87,061 units. Although a big drop from last week's near 350,000 units, this was good enough to beat Bandai Namco's Dragon Ball Z Infinite World, which debuted on the PS2 in second place at 76,452 units.
There was a mix of new and old for the rest of the top ten. Animal Crossing City Folk (Nintendo, Wii) took third with 75,614 units, followed by Kirby: Ultra Super Deluxe (Nintendo, DS) with 60,206 units, Wining Eleven 2009 (Konami, PS3) with 42,368 units, Wagamama Fashion Girls (Nintendo, DS) with 37,873 units, Pokemon Platinum (Pokemon, DS) with 37,330 units, 428 (Sega, Wii) with 33,997 units, Fallout 3 (Betehsda, Xbox 360) with 30,566 units and Rhythm Tengoku Gold (Nintendo, DS) with 29,619 units.
Of these, 428 and Fallout 3 (released first on the Xbox 360) were new. Both received high marks in Japan's source for gaming news, Famitsu, with 428 scoring a somewhat rare perfect 40 out of 40 rating. Publishers and retailers often use Famitsu scores as marketing materials, placing the scores and review text for high scoring titles next to the games in retail displays.
In hardware, DSi continued its lead with another 126,648 units for the week. PSP fell a bit to 55,090 units. The Wii rose to 56,702 units, while the PS3 dropped a few thousand to 30,309 units. Closing out the hardware race were the DS Lite at 12,096 units, the Xbox 360 at 9,988 units, and the PS2 at 5,743 units.
