First and foremost, the makers of Tomb Raider have optioned the Fear Effect series of action-adventure games to Paramount Pictures. Uwe Boll, director of House of the Dead and the forthcoming Alone in the Dark adaptation, is helming the project. He says, "Fear Effect is a fantastic game with a dark story. I want to create an action film in the vein of Charlie's Angels but portray its sexy heroines Hana and Rain in a much edgier fashion."
The developer has also sold the movie rights for Deus Ex to Columbia Pictures and producer Laura Ziskin.
Last we heard, screenwriter Greg Pruss was drafting the script. He told IGN that the game's main character, JC Denton, will be "a little bit filthier than he was in the game," and that the film will be somewhat darker than the source material.
Eidos' vice president of marketing, Paul Baldwin says, "We are excited to continue our success of extending our original IP to film. Tomb Raider was highly successful, as will be Deus Ex, and we look forward to Fear Effect continuing this trend."
