Two-time Academy Awards host Jimmy Kimmel and his Lie Witness News team asked people what they thought about this year’s Oscars, even though the ceremony itself won’t happen until February 24th.
“Between all the changes in the telecast and the lack of a host this year, there’s been a lot of controversy surrounding the Oscars, and as a result a lot of attention has been paid to that,” Kimmel said. “So we went out on the street and we asked people to tell us how they thought the show went this year. Now, of course the Oscars have not happened yet.”
The Lie Witness News team then asked Hollywood Blvd. denizens about specific moments in the show, including Leonardo DiCaprio walking the red carpet with a dolphin, Bill Cosby tearfully accepting an Oscar for his animated film Into the Cosby-Verse and BlacKKKlansman‘s Best Original Song-winning “I Think I Klan.”
Earlier in the segment, Kimmel tackled the latest Oscar controversy – the removal of four categories, including Best Editing and Best Cinematography, from the telecast – and offered up his own solution to the problem: Present those awards at a nearby Burger King so that the ceremony intermingles with the commercials.
